Welcome to Seymour!

The first settler on the land that is now Seymour was James Shields who brought his family here in 1816 and built on the property which is now the old city cemetery. In 1820, he received a land grant for the ground he had homesteaded in the area called Mule Crossing.

The son of James Shields, Captain Meedy W. Shields, who later became a State Senator, inherited his father’s land holdings and developed it into a prosperous farm. During the latter 1840’s, a north-south railroad connecting the Ohio River at Jeffersonville with Indianapolis was built crossing the Shields’ farm. In 1852, an east-west railroad was being surveyed through Jackson County and Shields persuaded the railroad company to run through his property. In exchange for this favor, he agreed to name the town after the railroad’s civil engineer, J. Seymour. Seymour, Indiana, quickly became a major center of commercial activity. The city was incorporated in 1864 with a population of 1553.

You may not have been born in John Mellencamp’s “Small Town” but you will always be welcomed to visit — or live amongst our notable doctors, inventors, rock stars, and even a former Miss America, all who proudly claim Seymour, Indiana, as their home.

"Dana Peters was my realtor from Sept. 1st through Dec 31st 2019. I highly recommend her to you! She overlooked my lack of knowledge in this area. She completely walked me through each stage of this process until I understood it. Dana went out of her way too after my move with the required paperwork which limited my driving 2 hours each way to Muncie. She is thoughtful and compassionate as I grieved family members and leaving my long time home. Dana facilitated the closing making it easier for me. She made this experience as good as it could be for my family."

I had a great experience! I had tried going with another agent that I had been referred to me and her attitude was the worst so when I  came to Berkshire hathaway I was skeptical. But Dana treated me with respect, patience, and understanding. I would go to her any day, if I had another houe issue and recommend to all my friends!

It isn't often that major decisions have to be made but when it does happen especially at a very difficult time for you, it is even more scary and stressful let alone emotional. That happened to me on the sudden passing of my husband. Thankfully, all my worries and concerns were just one phone call to Dana Peters. Upon that discussion, we made arrangements to meet in my home in a short time. There we learned more about each other including my concerns, her style, home and market information etc. Dana is personable, professional, and a savvy realtor.

She returns phone calls promptly, keeps you informed about any and all steps with the process. She will walk you through whole process, you can ask any questions and she will tell you straight the best things to do for your benefit. Dana is a special asset to Berkshire Hathaway.
